Two vinyl quotes came back for the same back yard, and one is a lot higher than the other. Before you take the lower one, put them side by side and see whether they are pricing the same fence.
Why this page has no price table
In October 2026 we read the websites of eight of the companies listed in this directory. None posts a vinyl fence price. Above All Fence in East Islip sends you to book a free estimate, Priority Fence in Farmingville says to call, and Residential Fences in Ridge says pricing is handled through a consultation. National cost sites publish averages, but they are not Long Island prices and we do not repeat them here. What follows is what moves the number up or down, so you can tell whether two quotes match.
What changes a vinyl fence price
| What changes | Why it moves the quote | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Length of the run | Above All sells vinyl in 8 foot sections, so the footage sets how many sections and posts you buy | Above All Fence, PVC sections |
| Height | The same styles come in 6 foot and 4 foot sections | Above All Fence, PVC sections |
| Style | Solid privacy, lattice top, picket top and spaced picket are separate products | Above All Fence, PVC sections |
| Brand and color | Illusions colors and wood grains are a different line from plain white | Family Fence, PVC Fences |
| Gates | Each hinge and latch post gets an aluminum stiffener or rebar and concrete | Bufftech instructions |
| Post holes | 30 inches deep or to the frost line, with concrete around each post | Bufftech instructions |
| Survey | About $500 for a typical survey if you do not have one | Superior Fence & Rail, Fence Permits |
| Permit | Superior puts permit fees generally at $150 to $400; your town’s fee schedule is the real number | Superior Fence & Rail, Fence Permits |
The survey and permit figures are general numbers from Superior’s national site, not a Long Island fee schedule. Huntington wants a survey dated within 6 months with a permit application, so an old survey may not do.
Reading two quotes side by side
New York General Business Law section 771 lists what a home improvement contract has to contain, and it applies to fence jobs over $500 (section 770 counts fences as home improvement). Use it as a checklist:
- the contractor’s name, address, phone and license number
- the work and the materials, with make and model
- approximate start and finish dates
- the agreed price, and a schedule of any progress payments in dollars and cents, each one reasonably tied to the work done by then
- how money paid before the job is finished is held, under the Lien Law or with a bond
- the notice that you can cancel until midnight of the third business day
If one quote names Bufftech or Illusions, the style, the height, the number of gates and the post reinforcement, and the other says “6 foot white vinyl,” they are not the same price for the same fence.
The warranty is part of the price
Barrette’s Bufftech warranty excludes labor, removal and reinstallation costs, and damage from improper installation. Two installers selling the same panel can be offering very different protection. Above All Fence, for example, lists a one year workmanship warranty plus the manufacturer warranties. Ask every company what theirs covers and for how long, and get it on the paper.
Paying for it
Family Fence in Bellmore advertises 0 percent financing, and Superior Fence & Rail offers fence financing loans up to $75,000 per project. If you use either, get the rate and the length of the loan in writing next to the quote.
Price red flags
- A total with no footage, height, style or brand.
- A big payment due before any work, with no schedule. Section 771 says each progress payment should bear a reasonable relationship to the work done.
- No license number on the contract.
- “Permit not needed” for a 6 foot fence, with no reason given.
The vinyl fence page covers the product itself, and the license guide shows how to check the company before you sign.
